More Than Casual Business

Is there anyone else who absolutely DREADS the words 'business casual' !?! Well, even if you don't, I can assure you that I dread the words enough for the both of us. The good news is (and yes, there IS good news) that it doesn't have to be as horrible or boring as we make it out to be. It really doesn't!
Headed to an off-site 12:30 pm lunch meeting with creative minds? Or rather, headed to a semi-casual lunch and cocktails with your girlfriends!? NOW is the time to put a new spin on the words 'business casual'. A pencil skirt paired with pointed-toe pumps isalways a good idea, but, how about trying a pencil skirt in a different texture, like leather!? Or, how about a pump that really POPS!? I specifically chose three items from my closest which I did not buy for lunching or business, to exemplify just how easy it is to land a more exciting look for your meeting, and even better, with items that may already exist in your closet!
I absolutely adore jean and leather together, however, if you are planning on pairing the two together, I recommend a very soft and light-weight jean (generally, I would also stay away from harsh stitching or bright white buttons). I picked up this jean top from Forever 21 well over a year ago, and I constantly throw it on unplanned over a tee when heading out to run errands. The centerpiece of this look, however, is the leather skirt. Although I would never recommend a skirt with a thigh-high slit for anything business related (eek.. please don't!) the length and texture of the skirt perfectly encompassed the elements I wanted to convey. Not comfortable with leather?? A wool pencil skirt paired with a semi casual tee, statement necklace and pointed-pumps is also something to think about trying! I chose my white Kandee pumps to make the look PLAYFUL; the bow adding the necessary GIRLY element to balance out the boldness of the leather skirt.NOTE: (1) nude patent pumps would be a great alternative, and (2) please stay away from the obvious color pick, that being
black. Nude, white, and some colored pumps (yellow or pastel) have a more casual effect, and would be the better choice to keep the look balanced; otherwise, the jean top would simply look out of place. Throw on a neutral-colored trench if it's chilly or misty outside to finish off the look!
